Gulet Cruise Sept 2026
Corfu

Tam and I have always fancied doing a cruise on a smaller boat especially in Greece or Croatia. I came across this holiday on Travelodeal for a 7 night cruise starting and ending in Corfu and Tam jumped at the chance. The company the cruise was booked with is called Sail in Greece (Travelodeal are just the middle man) and this might not seem particularly important at this point, but it becomes more so eventually, trust me.

When booking the flights we went with British Airways and made a bit of a ricket when we booked return flights leaving from Heathrow. Unfortunately we hadn't noticed that the return was into Gatwick. Sigh, never mind we can work around that and booked a Flixbus to Heathrow where we stayed at the Premier Inn at terminal 4 for the night before catching our flight to Corfu. This all went smoothly, in fact we've never been through an airport so fast as it took 35 minutes from stepping off our flight in Corfu to walking in the door of the hotel that we'd booked for one night.
It's the Divani Corfu Palace and perfectly fine for one night. It's positioned not far from the airport in fact we had fun watching the planes take off and land from our balcony. Just to be clear - the planes used a runway, we just watched from our balcony.

The runway is just above the roofs on the houses. In fact you just make out the tail of a plane if you look hard.

After showering we walked 15 minutes to our restaurant for the evening. It was called Flisvos and is positioned just by Mouse Island and virtually at the end of the runway. This makes it sound horrible, but it was far from it. Our table was right by the waters edge and we enjoyed watching the planes swoop in a few feet above the church on the island. We both had fish (Sea Bass I think) and it was lovely as was the Greek white wine. We spent about 3 hours here and it was a perfect start to our holiday.

The next day we were due to board the boat around 5.00 pm, so we spent the morning lazing around the pool and then in the afternoon we checked out of the hotel and got a bus for 2 euros to Corfu Old Town. We spent a couple of hours walking around and eventually ended up at the Corfu Sailing Club. Tam had found this place online and you had to walk through the old fort to get there. You're supposed to pay an entry fee at the booth at the entrance to the fort, but if you tell them you are going to the sailing club they let you in for nothing. We enjoyed a beer here.

At the end of our cruise we returned to Corfu where we were due to spend a final night on the boat. For reasons that will become obvious later in the report we booked a small Airbnb apartment instead for our last night. It was a pretty little basement apartment set in a small square. Unfortunately the weather didn't play ball and it rained for most of the evening, but that didn't put us off and we had a nice time in a quirky little wine bar followed by a meal in a restaurant that took our fancy. Finally we met back up with all the people that we'd met on the cruise for a final drink and to say farewell.

Our apartment is directly in front with the open door.

The little window had a small breakfast bar in front of it.

The wine bar.

The restaurant.

Proof that although there may be rich people in Corfu Town, they don't all have good taste.

We've been to Corfu Town a few times and it's a pretty little place with lots of small alleys and streets, well worth a visit.
