South Africa - Day 13

Even with an early night we are still in bed until 8.30 am this morning, we can't say we haven't slept well this holiday. Breakfast is granola, yoghurt and fruit again. Not particularly inspiring, but it's healthy and something has to balance out the alcohol and meals we've been having.

Since we started planning this holiday I wanted to visit the suspension bridge trail at Storms River in the Tsitsikamma National Park. Even though it's pronounced Tittsykama you will be docked points for childish behaviour if you laugh at this. It's about an 80 minute journey and we start out on a pretty grey sort of morning and it starts to drizzle as we reach our destination. At the park gates we are told that the bridges are shut for maintenance, which is a bit of a bummer as it says that they're open on Google.
A change of plans is required so we head back to the Keurbooms Nature Reserve as I'd read it's quite nice. After a bit of trouble we find the entrance to the Keurbooms Ferry and a guy on the security gate lets us in for a look around. There's not much to see, but we work out that the ferry is really a tour up the Keurbooms River which looks fun so we might do that in the next couple of days.

Across the river we spot a place with tables and umbrellas outside that looks like it might be good for lunch, so we jump back in the car and cross the bridge to park up. It turns out to be the Keurbooms Angling and Boating Club. We have a lovely lunch of open roast beef sandwich and a smoked mackerel salad along with a couple of beers while overlooking the small marina. Total with tip is less than £18.

On to Plettenburg where we stop at a market and Tam buys a few things.

The main beach is next where we stop for a look around and then another stop at a beach to the west of town. The beaches are beautiful, but not at their best as it's overcast.

This place tends to dominate the beaches at Plettenburg.

I don't know why they don't just write 'Don't swim you fool' on the sign.

As you can see it remained overcast all day. Not cold though.

Back to the aprtment where we decide to have a go in the kayaks provided for our use. Unfortunately there is only one paddle. That might be just as well as dragging a heavy kayak from the house is a bit of a struggle. We take it in turns to paddle about for a bit. It's nice but not the same as kayaking in Florida. Maybe it would have been different if we'd had 2 paddles, more time and a sunny day.

I think I'm employing the relaxed kayaking approach here.

After a shower we walk along the lagoon into the waterfront area at 6.00pm and sit for a drink at O'Pescadero before moving across to 34 South for our 7.00 pm reservation. This is a nice place with inside tables, but we have good luck and are given a nice table out on the deck. I have the sirloin steak, which isn't anywhere near as good as the steak I had at Hussar Grill. I should have stuck with fish, which is what Tam does. She follows this up with an Affogato.

The inside of 34 South.

... and the outside. This is the view we had from our table.

It's been very pleasant and we decide to finish the evening off back at O'Pescadero where we both have a gin and tonic.

An Uber gets us back to the accomodatio. It's the same driver as last night - yet another Manchester United fan. One things for sure you don't want to drink and drive in Knysna. Both nights we've had an Uber back there have been police roadblocks stopping everyone to check for drink driving.
We're back by 10.00 pm, but I manage to find a feed to watch Arsenal v Chelsea on my phone, so don't go to sleep until midnight. That's really late on this holiday!
