Nordfjordeid, Norway cruise - May 2025

Participants: Tam, Kev and India

After a day at sea we arrived at our first port of call, Nordfjordeid. We entered the fjord just before lunch and it took a couple of hours to reach the town. The scenery was spectacular as we cruised along close to the mountains and I couldn't see how it could be any better in the next 2 fjords. How wrong I was. This was the least spectacular of the 3 fjords we visited. That's not to say it wasn't amazingly beautiful, it was, but I'm glad this was the first as the next 2 took your breath away with the beauty and splendour.

You can't tell me this doesn't look like a giant turtle.

I was surprised at the number of small towns and villages we passed, all very picturesque.

The water was so calm and serene and the weather was kind to us again as it warmed up pleasantly later in the day.

This is Nordfjordeid. 'What a small place' I thought to myself. Little did I know how small Flam and Geiranger were to be.

We were only in port for a few hours, so we hired E-bikes and rode along the side of the fjord 15 kilometers or so. What a good idea this turned out to be. It was a nice, quiet road and we only passed a handful of cars and other bikes in the 2 hours we were out.

The spring flowers were out in abundance.

We did notice that there wasn't an abundance of wildlife, we thought there might be more birds. However we did see a Sea Eagle. We knew this because we had attended a presentation on wildlife on our at sea day and had been told that it had a distinctive white tail. I'd settle for a view of a Sea Eagle any day.

We also ran into these friendly little chaps. I don't think we can count them as wildlife though.

The views of the ship with the snow covered mountains in the background as we cycled back along the fjord were glorious.

Don't fancy mowing the lawn.

Back in the town we had a wander around. It's a pretty place, but the main attraction is the scenery.

Crikey, India's let her self go a bit these days.

We didn't have too long until we had to be back on the ship, but it was certainly an excellent start to our Norwegian adventure.
